Share with us a turning point in your journey. How did you decide that being the creator of Her New Tribe would be your calling, if it is?
After years of pinning and blogging on another site, I decided that I was ready to build a brand that was a true
reflection of my life, sharing what inspired me and others that I admired. I enjoyed promoting and supporting other independent brands and designers that I loved on Pinterest, but I wanted to dig a little deeper and tell more of the story.
What motivates and inspires you everyday?
Honestly, I can find inspiration in almost anything. My biggest challenge is trying to take the ideas and turn them into something. There are just not enough hours in the day when you are a mom, but nothing is more important to me, or inspires me more, then my daughters. I aim to be the very best version of myself each day for them.
You adopted a child (about a year ago?), a generous and inspiring decision. What was the process like and what would you say to others looking to do the same?
After having our first daughter we struggled for many years trying to become pregnant. When we decided to adopt, we were terrified of the unknown, but we were incredibly determined. Adoption is not an easy process, but for us-
it was a life changing experience in the very best way possible. There were bumps in the road, but the day we brought our daughter home we felt like the luckiest people in the world.
We love the way you capture moments of your family. If the camera did not exist, how would you have captured those moments?
Thanks so much! I cannot imagine the world without photographs. I am a big picture taker, especially when it comes to my family. But, I have been journaling since I was a child and I have a heavy chest of journals as evidence. I work hard to remain present in my life, enjoying precious moments that will sadly be forgotten. Writing things down helps me appreciate them and remember them later.
Tell us a story about one person that has made a lasting impact to your life?
More then ten years ago I married my husband Cuyler. There is no one that supports and encourages me more. His
love and dedication to our family is incredible. When he proposed I cried tears of joy and relief. I knew my life would never be the same.
Favorite quote that you hope your children would live by?
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi
I’m not concerned with what they accomplish, only just that they believe that they can.
