Introducing Kelly Latimer – host, presenter and ambassador for SportSG and Under Armour and most importantly, mother to Sienna Jamie Loi. She juggles life on camera and off it, but loves connecting with people whatever the scenario. She likes beach days and salty air, and can’t wait to get back to going off the grid. Currently, Kelly hosts Kickback with Kelly & Barbara on @getactivetv and can’t wait to get back on stage to host with a physical audience.
Sports and fitness are obviously a big part of your life. Where did it stem from and how has that shaped your life?
I have always been a rather sporty person. I did martial arts for over a decade, was always on some team for some sport or another and when I realised how much your metabolism slows as you age, I get the need to ramp up the fitness regime quite a bit. Ah, youth… Sport taught me a lot. About life, discipline, disappointment and how to deal with it, and most importantly, dedication – to yourself, your team, your sport.
You’re currently hosting The Morning Show on Get Active TV with your sister Barbara. What are some key messages you want to send across to your viewers?
The Morning Show was our way of trying to help people stay sane during circuit breaker. We wanted people to realise that whatever situation they were in, there were others out there like them. You working towards a fitness goal? So is our trainer… Your business suffering due to covid? So is our guest… You need help with ideas of how to entertain your kids? Me too! The idea was to guide our viewers through the new normal and help them understand that they are not alone.
Post circuit breaker, Kickback with Kelly and Barbara is going to do something similar, but a bit more condensed, a little more lifestyle and less covid-focused. We will be broadcast in the evenings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays! We are super excited about this change – we’ve had to be agile with our content because what is consistency these days anyway?!

Where does your motivation come from? Also, what gets you down?
My motivation stems from my desire to make my family proud and to be a kind human being. I have always been that way for as long as I can remember. My desire to be a good human also means I am quite an emotional soul. Seeing others suffer or in pain almost physically hurts me.
What item of clothing makes you feel most like yourself?
Is it cliche if I say it’s my Lounge Lunghis? I prioritise comfort over fast fashion, and I enjoy being able to move freely, without restriction. These pants are an investment in myself and my comfort. I can dance, prance, play with Sienna, crawl and climb. That’s me.
What is the relationship you have with your clothes?
The right clothes make me feel confident. I sometimes need to have clothes for work that I deem unnecessary for my personal life, but needs must. I have tried to do away with unnecessary items but it’s hard when you are in the entertainment industry sometimes. But when I feel good in my clothes, I feel good about myself.

#ChangeBeyondTextiles is…
Making a change to the way we consume those textiles. Fast fashion is good for no one, but there is an external pressure from certain industries to look or wear things to be current or trending. We need to be personally strong to resist those pressures – I don’t think I’m there yet. I once created a poll asking people if I were to attend events in repeated events, would they frown or find it refreshing. The majority said that it wasn’t appropriate for the media industry, with a few adding on that they would understand if I did it though. So… we have a long way to go, but I guess it starts with each of us taking a personal stand.
What’s one motto you want your children to live by?
I want my children to grow up “strong of heart, strong of body and strong of mind” – to be courageous enough to know what is right and to act on it, physically capable of pursuing their dreams and to be brave enough follow through.
We are inspired by Kelly’s passion for fitness and a healthy lifestyle and are proud to have her as Fieldtesters, a group of inspiring individuals that test MATTER products in their everyday journeys of passion, to help us improve durability and design.
